Description

The content in this book has been largely adapted from Who I Am: Volume I – My Learning Style Plan and Who I Am: Volume III – My Time Management & Study Skills Plan. These two books, written as part of a series of books to support our college planning program, have been re-purposed to focus more succinctly on the combination of learning styles and study skills.

While this book is written primarily for students, I was encouraged by Ako Kambon, a long-time friend and nationally acclaimed speaker and educational consultant to consider how this book might be used by teachers and parents. Mr. Kambon argued that teachers, when armed with the necessary resources, under girded by learning styles and study skills research, could cultivate classroom climates, cultures, and instructional pedagogy that successfully meets the needs of diverse learners. He also argued that parents could use the information in collaboration with their child to develop effective at-home study locations and routines to help their child to become a successful learner.

The core pillars of our college planning program are scholarship, leadership, and service. Becoming a successful student begins with the first pillar—scholarship. I believe that this book can help a good student to become better and a great student to become exceptional.

Whether you are a top student or a struggling student, this strategy-filled book provides a step-by-step approach to developing a personalized approach to learning, one that is not prescriptive, but based on who you are and how you best learn. Learn how your brain receives, stores, and recalls information—at the core of all learning. Learn if you are using high value learning strategies or if you are “working hard,” but not “working smart.”
