  • List a single year for involvement that does not go beyond one year (e.g., 2017, 2018, etc.)
  • List a year range for involvement that extends beyond one year (e.g., 2014 – 2015, 2015 – 2018, etc.)
  • List the beginning year and the word 'present' for involvement that is continuous (e.g., 2014 – present, 2018 – present, etc.).
  • All dates that end in 'present' are listed first, followed by most current, e.g., ( 2016 – present, 2017 – present, 2018, 2016, 2014 – 2015, etc.)

Activity 2: This activity is likely to be a bit more difficult as you must gather, or reflect on, the information, by category (i.e., education, work experience, school- and community-based activities, and awards) that will be reflected on your résumé REPRESENTING YOUR HIGH SCHOOL EXPERIENCE. THIS MEANS THAT YOU MUST CAREFULLY AND THOUGHTFULLY SET PERFORM THE FOLLOWING STEPS:

  • Go to your high school website, perform an Internet search, or review the Course Catalog, to identify all available clubs, bands, athletic teams, organizations, or honors available at the high school that you will be attending.
    • Select the activities in which you wish to participate (and years of participation)
    • Select the awards that you wish to receive (and years in which you desire to be recognized)

Note: Each high school goal must be preceded by an asterisk (*) to distinguish it as a 'Goal' and not something that you have actually done (e.g, *GPA 4.0; *Class Rank: Top 5%; *Varsity Football Team, etc.)

  • Academic record:

Activity 3: Organize your information and make a hand-written draft so that you may quickly enter your information into the 'Résumé Builder' form. Note that each section should be in chronological order based on year(s) of involvement beginning with the most current.

Activity 4: Following each step listed below should allow you to correctly enter your information into the 'Résumé Builder.' 

Note: Use your resume to set goals by placing activities, leadership roles, and awards that you 'want to earn or participate in' on your résumé preceded by an asterisk (e.g., Captain of the Varsity Football Team, National Honor Society, etc.)

  • Select 'Add Heading' for your first heading, “College/Career Objective”
  • Select 'Add Text' and type in a description of your college and career aspirations.
  • Select 'Add Heading' for your next heading, “Education”
  • Select 'Add Details' and type in the dates that you will begin and end high school, e.g., 2018 – 2022 in the first block; the name of the high school you will be attending in the second block; and the city and state of your high school in the 'Job Title/Degree' block
  • Select 'Add Text' and type in the name of your high school program on the first line (e.g., College Preparatory Program of Study, Middle College High School, Magnet School for the Performing Arts, etc.). On the second line, type in your GPA from your last school year (e.g., GPA 4.0, GPA 93.5, etc.); following by Class Rank and test scores if you know what they are (e.g., Class Rank 50/350; ACT Composite 25).
  • Select 'Add Details' and type in the dates that you began and ended middle school, e.g., 2015 – 2018 in the first block; the name of the middle school you attended in the second block; and the city and state of your middle school in the 'Job Title/Degree' block
  • Select 'Add Text' and type in the name of your middle school program on the first line. On the second line, type in your GPA from your last school year (GPA (enter a GPA based on the following scale: 90 – 100 '4.0'; 80 – 99 '3.0'; 79 or less '2.0').
  • Select 'Add Heading' for your next heading, “Community Service”
  • Select 'Add Details' and type in the dates of a community service activity in the first block, which may have occurred at school, for a community organization, or at a faith-based institution; the name of the organization in the second block; and your title in the third block (e.g., Volunteer, Coordinator, Mentor, Tutor, etc.).
  • Select 'Add Text' if you would like to add a description.
  • Repeat 'Add Details' and 'Add Text' for each community service activity in chronological order.
  • Select 'Add Heading' for your next heading, “Activities”
  • Select 'Add Details' and type in the dates of each activity in the first block, which may have occurred at school, for a community organization, or at a faith-based institution; the name of the organization in the second block; and your title in the third block if you served in a leadership role (e.g., President, Captain, Co-captain, Section Leader, etc.).
  • Select 'Add Text' if you would like to add a description.
  • Repeat 'Add Details' and 'Add Text' for each activity in chronological order.
  • Select 'Add Heading' for your next heading, “Honors and Awards”
  • Select 'Add Details' and type in the dates of each honor or award that you received in the first block, which may have occurred at school, for a community organization, or at a faith-based institution and the name of the Honor or Award in the second block. Do not enter any information into the 'Job Title/Degree' field.
  • Repeat 'Add Details' for each honor and award in chronological order.
  • Select 'Save Resume' after entering your information
  • Select 'View Resume' to review your information
  • Select 'Save as PDF' to view or print your resume
  • Return to the Resume Page and select 'Edit' if you wish to make corrections to your resume
