Narrative: Develop your preliminary college list.

Future lessons will guide you through more thorough college research in identifying schools based on such criteria as:

  • Institutional scholarships and financial aid policies
  • Size of the student body and demographics
  • Location and campus/community environment
  • Alumni network and job prospects after graduation
  • Success in gaining admission to graduate, medical, or law school

However, at this time, develop your preliminary college list based on what you learned in this module. If you have an interest in pursuing admission to an honors college, but would like to attend college in-state, then your preliminary college list may be comprised on in-state honors colleges. If you are less concerned about whether a college is a research university or a liberal arts college and more concerned with a particular college major, then later research will guide you in developing a list of colleges where you may pursue your desired major.

Preliminary College List –  List the schools in which you have long held an interest in attending and provide a summary of how these schools made your list. List the schools in which you have developed an interest based on what you learned in this module and provide a summary of how these schools made your list.

College Research Narrative –  Your preliminary college list may dramatically change as you engage in more thorough college research. However, at this time, write a 250 – 500 word narrative summarizing what you anticipate to be the most important considerations in arriving at your final college list. List them in the order of importance, such as cost, distance from home, type of school (e.g., HBCU, research university), need-based financial aid, merit-based scholarships. etc.
